Description
The Town of Sudbury is seeking two seasonal Land Management Crew positions to perform manual labor and general landscaping duties associated with conservation land management, including invasive species control and trail maintenance. Work schedule is a 35 hour week Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. from June - August, 2026. Ideal candidates have plant identification skills, power tools experience, & basic carpentry skills. Must be 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license. Pay range is $18.00 - $25.00/hour; starting pay based on qualifications.
The deadline to submit an application is March 31, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Appointment of the final candidates will be contingent upon the results of pre-placement conditions including criminal and motor vehicle record checks. Costs for these pre-placement requirements will be borne by the Town.
Requirements
Responsibilities and Tasks:
Maintenance of trails including cutting brush, mowing, and tree removal
Removal of invasive species
Assisting with growing and planting native species to improve biodiversity
Maintaining, repairing and installing basic trail infrastructure
Maintaining signage, rest areas, and historic features on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail
Maintaining power tools and equipment
Qualifications:
18 years or older
Possession of a valid driver’s license
Experience operating landscaping power equipment as well as other basic hand and power tools
Experience or willingness to learn basic plant identification. Experience with invasive plant identification and removal is a plus.
Ability to interpret and use maps in conjunction with other wayfinding devices.
Ability to work independently and as a team
Knowledge of basic carpentry skills
Willingness to interact with the public for educational purposes
Upper level undergraduate or bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, land management, or related field preferred
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Applicants must be comfortable working outdoors, on and off trail, in all weather conditions. Work includes exposure to mosquitoes, ticks, and various environmental hazards, including
poison ivy. Applicant is required to traverse uneven terrain and to stand, walk, sit, bend and reach for extended periods. Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and are able to lift 50 lbs. We are looking for a safety-conscious individual with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
