Assistant Professor of Applied Wildlife Management

The School of Natural Resources (SNR) at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) in Knoxville, Tennessee, invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Applied Wildlife Management, 60% Research/40% Extension. The individual must be committed to the Land Grant University mission of research, teaching, and Extension, with a strong interest in mentoring students. The candidate’s expertise should complement and expand SNR’s existing research and Extension programs.  Anticipated start date:  August 2027.

The successful candidate will develop a research and Extension program focused on applied wildlife management applicable to Tennessee landscapes. Examples of research and Extension program areas may include but are not limited to:  Habitat management, population dynamics, resource selection, and movement ecology. Applicants should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment.

The successful candidate is expected to seek collaboration with state and federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and private landowners. In addition to securing extramural funding, the successful candidate is expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals, develop and promote Extension programs in applied wildlife management, conduct in-service training for UT Extension and state agencies as appropriate, direct graduate students, mentor undergraduate students, serve on School and Institute committees, and participate in professional societies.

Requirements

Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology, or a related field, completed before the position start date, experience conducting applied wildlife management research in ecosystems in or similar to Tennessee, and an understanding of Extension and the Land Grant mission.

Desired Qualifications:  A strong research and publication record, success in grant writing, experience working in Extension, and a record of collaboration and cooperative research with state and federal natural resource agencies and non-government organizations.
