Mason, Bruce, & Girard, Inc., a natural resource consulting firm headquartered in Portland, OR., is seeking an exceptionally self-motivated full-time biologist to support project managers as needed in the field and/or office with a variety of tasks involving data collection, report preparation, and project administration. As a member of our Environmental Services Group, you will support multiple projects by performing fieldwork, report writing and research, and agency/client coordination/communications.  In this role, your major duties will include:

  • Conduct various types of field surveys adhering to specific protocols.
  • Provide background research and draft portions of technical documents (e.g., BAs, EISs).
  • Act in a supporting role to project managers and prepare project deliverables within allotted level of effort and schedule.
  • Understand and perform work using the correct level of effort appropriate for the scope, budget, and overall expectations.
  • Responsible for accurate recording of notes and documentation for all client projects.
  • Support the preparation of permit applications.
  • Perform work with a high level of integrity.


Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA or BS in Biology or closely related natural resource field required.
  • Understanding of and experience with field survey procedures and protocols related to fish, wildlife, and/or plant species.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic technical report writing and editing skills.
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
  • Responsive and client service oriented.
  • Intermediate level skill in MS Office.
  • Ability to identify flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest.
  • General understanding of environmental regulations (e.g. NEPA, ESA, CWA).
  • Ability to use field gear (GPS units, electrofishing gear, aerial photos, munsell chart, etc.).
  • General understanding of field procedures and safety protocols.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to identify and delineate wetlands.
  • 3-5 years of field experience, preferably in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Experience working with environmental laws, regulations, policy and procedures desired.
  • Experience working for an environmental consulting firm or A&E firm a significant plus.
  • Experience managing tasks and/or small projects.

Job Conditions

Work is performed both in the field and from our Portland location. Employees may choose to work from our downtown Portland office, their home office, or both. Field work to be performed in all weather conditions, steep rough terrain, and a variety of settings including open fields and forested areas.
